A home gym. This is the stuff of most people’s dreams: a place they can work out in and don’t even need to pack a bag in order to be able to use the shower. No matter what kind of gym you like, there are many reasons why having a home gym is a good idea. Most importantly, design the gym to suit you and your likes. No matter how important someone tells you a treadmill is, if you prefer to walk outdoors and alternate that with doing yoga, your treadmill will just become a very expensive towel hanger.

How much can you get out of the space you have? Remember, this is a personal space. You don’t have to overcrowd your gym with the latest fitness equipment. Make the equipment multi-functional to save space. Remember, you can treat the gym like your personal retreat area. It should be like a personal sanctuary, with some space to breathe.

And that’s another reason why having a home gym is a good idea – you can choose the feel of the room. Make the gym a space you want to stay in and you’ll want to work out. Why not pattern your gym after a spa? It doesn’t have to be cold and clinical, but warm-colored paint instead of bright white, some coordinating carpet, a few cushions and plants, a great sound system, and maybe a scented candle or two will make it a place where you’ll want to stay, not escape from after a few reps.

And the last reason why having a home gym is a good idea? You lose all your excuses not to exercise!
